Before You Buy That Hoodia Product…

If you are looking for a weight loss product that will take the edge off your hunger and stop your cravings you may be in the market for one of the many Hoodia products available. Because of the recent media attention, Hoodia products abound both on the marketplace shelves and on the Internet. The demand for Hoodia increased after news shows that featured the Hoodia gordonii plant in their broadcasts. The BBC, 60 Minutes, and more recently the Today Show has focused attention on this remarkable weight loss product. Many have tried Hoodia products and the results have been mixed. Some swear it is the greatest discovery since sliced bread and some claim it did nothing to help them at all! Why the inconsistency?

You should know the article you are buying. When it comes to buying Hoodia products you have to be savvy enough to know what is available, which is fake, and which is real. You do not want to buy the first Hoodia pill you find! An informed buyer is a smart buyer and the many companies and their false claims about their product will not scam you. The Federal Drug Administration has not been involved in the testing of this product because it is classified as a dietary supplement and not a prescription drug. There simply are no guarantees the Hoodia supplement is safe. It is thought to be a safe weight loss supplement because the Bushmen of the South African deserts have used Hoodia gordonii for thousands of years.

Clinical trials and independent studies show no short-term side effects you should be aware of. They experienced no stomach upsets, heart palpitations, or increased blood pressure or heart rate. There is no testing process that any Hoodia brand product has to go through to be sold on the open market. Those who have taken Hoodia and report no weight loss may have bought the Hoodia that is nothing but fillers and only a small amount of Hoodia. In this case, the consumer will get what they pay for.

Hoodia is a plant that is protected by the South African government. It is rare, expensive, and there are only a few companies who have certificate allowing them to export Hoodia gordonii. As a consumer you should be sure the product you are buying is genuine Hoodia gordonii from the Kalahari Desert of South Africa. It should have a certificate of authenticity (a CITES certificate.) Your product should have an independent lab report verifying the product is real. The lab report number should be the same on the packaging as well as the label. The date should not be over six months old, if it is, don't buy it!

Consumers who are thinking of buying Hoodia products to help them lose weight should do their homework. Just because it is sold in a brick and mortar store does not mean it is the real Hoodia. Check the ingredients for any unnecessary filler. Some pills were found to have about 90 percent fillers and not the Hoodia extract. Verify the company you are dealing with. Do they have an 800 number you can call for added information? Do they have a refund policy? Look for the CITES certificate and the independent lab report number before you buy. Research will take a short time but the results may last a lifetime!
